Earlier this month, something truly special happened. Three of our wonderful Pop N Rock choirs—from Roundhay, Otley, and Ilkley—came together in one stunning location to film the brand-new promo video you now see on our homepage.
The setting? The breathtaking Otley Common—a recently purchased venue full of character and potential. Though still in the early stages of renovation, the space offered a magical atmosphere and incredible acoustics. Plans are underway to transform it into a concert hall and wedding venue, and we feel lucky to have been part of its journey so early on.
Led by our brilliant conductors Kim and Georgia, over 60 incredible women gathered in the upstairs pews and poured their hearts into every note. The morning was filled with laughter, emotion, and the unshakable joy that comes from singing together.
🎶 Rise Up
The first song, Rise Up, was performed with power and grace. Some members were visibly moved by its message of resilience and unity—its impact magnified by the soaring acoustics of the old hall. The sound was spine-tingling, and more than a few tears were quietly shed.
💜 Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves
Next came our Pop N Rock anthem: Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves. This song was especially meaningful, dedicated to our dear friend and Roundhay choir member Helena McNab, who we sadly lost too soon. The last time we spent time with Helena, she was full of life—insisting we all sing this very song at karaoke. Now, it’s become a joyful tribute to her spirit and energy.
The ladies sang with full heart (and just a little wobble in their pews!), and we followed it up with a second, sillier version downstairs to add a little extra fun to the final cut. (Full music video coming soon to our YouTube channel—watch this space!)
🎥 A Joyful Chaos
Our endlessly patient videographer, Ash Scott, took it all in his stride—wrangling 60 singers, navigating tricky lighting, and capturing the spirit of the day beautifully. Georgia was so overwhelmed by the joy and energy in the room (and still feeling the effects of a gig the night before!) that she burst into tears of joy mid-filming. A real moment of music-fuelled magic.
🍻 And Then… The Pub
As all great choir days should, the morning ended with some of the group heading to the pub for food, drinks, and more laughter. It was a brilliant start to what promises to be an exciting chapter in the Pop N Rock story.
A huge thank you to Ash for his talent and calm, to all our singers for your energy and emotion, and to everyone helping bring Otley Common to life. We can’t wait to share the final video with you all—and for everything that’s still to come.
More to come soon – stay tuned!
