A Night of Music, Community and Pure Rock Energy

On Saturday 16th May, the Wesley Centre in Harrogate came alive with the sound of soaring harmonies, rock anthems and an incredible sense of community as Pop ’n’ Rock Choirs took to the stage for Rock the Rafters.

Bringing together singers from across our choirs, the evening was a celebration of everything that makes Pop ’n’ Rock special — friendship, confidence, passion and, of course, great music.

From the very first note, the audience was treated to a powerful collection of pop and rock favourites, performed with energy, heart and enthusiasm. The programme featured everything from uplifting classics to emotional ballads, with each song showcasing the hard work and dedication our members have put into rehearsals over the past months.

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing singers from different choirs come together as one. Many members had only met each other for the first time during rehearsals for the concert, yet on stage they performed as a united ensemble, proving once again that music has an incredible ability to bring people together.

We were also delighted to welcome special guest Liam Gray, whose fantastic performance added another layer of excitement to an already unforgettable evening. After losing his brother the week before Liam showed such grit and professionalism and the dedication of ‘Angels’ on the night was a really incredible and moving moment for everyone. Georgia’s son Maksym on the guitar solo added even more emotion to the song and I think everyone in the room really felt it!

A huge thank you must go to our incredible Pop ’n’ Rock team — Harvey, Gamz, Sophia, Alison and Sarah — whose talent, commitment and enthusiasm help make our choirs such welcoming and inspiring places to sing.

Behind the scenes, we are enormously grateful to Darren on sound and Marty on lighting, whose expertise ensured the concert looked and sounded fantastic throughout the evening.

We would also like to thank The Wesley Centre for embracing our slightly crazy idea and providing the perfect venue for a night of rock anthems and community spirit. The spontaneous speech from Les at the end left us all in tears and brought home to everyone how important community and connection really is.

Thank you to Ash Scott for capturing the whole thing on video, so if you missed it you can watch THE WHOLE SHOW VIDEO here warts and all! We will be chopping them into songs and posting on youtube over coming weeks.

Thanks to Craig Denton our official Pop n Rock photographer for, as always, doing a fantastic job running up a down stairs and capturing the night. We really appreciate everything you do for us! You can check out all the photos from the evening on Craig’s flicker page PHOTOS

Most importantly, thank you to every single member of Pop ’n’ Rock. Watching over 100 singers grow in confidence, form friendships and achieve things they never thought possible continues to inspire us every day. Seeing that joy reflected on stage at Rock the Rafters reminded us exactly why we started Pop ’n’ Rock in the first place.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came along to support the concert. Your encouragement, applause and enthusiasm helped create an atmosphere that none of us will forget.

Rock the Rafters was more than just a concert — it was a celebration of community, courage, friendship and the power of singing together.

And if this night taught us anything, it’s that when we sing together, we shine together.

Until the next one… keep singing, keep smiling, and keep rocking out!
